Strathleven Regeneration Company has been established to promote, assist, and deliver physical, social, and economic regeneration in Dumbarton and the Strathleven Corridor (Dumbarton in the south to Balloch and Lomond Shores in the north).
The company's first major project, Lomondgate, is a joint venture with the Walker Group to redevelop the 88 acre site straddling the A82, and part of this being the former J&B Whisky plant in Dumbarton. This project has recently been granted planning consent for mixed use of residential, roadside services, hotel, and commercial development. The BBC is a major tenant on the site, and it has invested in the development of the River City television production set. The Walker Group will act as lead developer and will undertake some of the work directly, whilst other parts of the project will be sold on to other development organisations.
Strathleven Regeneration Company will be pursuing other opportunities in the Dumbarton area, either in the lead role or supporting other parties. As indicated, the role of the company is not intended to be in purely property related projects, it will target supporting all projects which directly benefit and improve the local community and environment.
A non profit organisation, Strathleven Regeneration Company has initially been awarded seed funding from Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire, and West Dunbartonshire Council, but its target is to be free of direct public funding, and to be self sustaining within a short period. Funding has also been generated through the sale of the J&B Whisky plant to the Walker Group, and the company also expects to earn further revenue from the development of the site. The funds will be used to reinvest in other projects in the pursuit of its objectives.
