MAJOR LANDSCAPING WORKS ON LOMONDGATE PROJECT UNDERWAY

£400,000 worth of structural landscaping work has started on the £60 million Lomondgate mixed use development in Dumbarton.

The work, centred on the main A82 roundabout giving access to the site, includes tree planting, shrubbery, decorative stonework and the creation of a shingle river bed on the Lomondgate roundabout.

This is the final piece of advance infrastructure for the Lomondgate development which will include over 300 new houses, a business park and a cluster of roadside visitor services / business park amenities as well as BBC Scotland’s drama production facility.

Spearheaded by Walker Group and Strathleven Regeneration Company, the development will help regenerate the local economy and create hundreds of jobs to replace those lost when the J&B bottling plant, which used to occupy part of the site, closed.

So far more than £12million has been invested by developers Walker Group in the project, including the creation of the roundabout, as well as improvements to two other major junctions, providing a new link road to the Stirling Road and new access to the BBC’s River City studios.

The demolition of redundant structures, groundworks and secondary infrastructure works have also been completed with utilities now in place to support the 100 acre site, which includes a 20 acre site for modern, office orientated, business space.

Bruce Walker, Managing Director of Walker Group, said: “We are delighted to be close to completing the crucial infrastructure work on the development and will shortly be releasing details of the new masterplan for the business park, which forms a crucial part of the whole scheme.

“It will offer over 200,000 sq ft of high quality flexible accommodation set within an excellent environment.

“It is great to at last be seeing the results of so many years of planning, securing of consents and a lot of work by all of the development partners.”

Premier Inn has already been signed up to open a 60 bedroom hotel and Table Table restaurant within the nine acres of roadside services located adjacent to the business park.

BBC Scotland has also reaffirmed its commitment to Lomondgate and River City by agreeing terms for a new lease on the site until 2026.

A further major new tenant for the site should be announced within the next few months.

John McFall MP, chairman of Strathleven Regeneration Company, said: “The commencement of these landscaping works is testament to the confidence of Strathleven Regeneration Company and the Walker Group in Lomondgate as an outstanding location. With investment by the Walker Group and the support of West Dunbartonshire Council, Scottish Enterprise and Diageo, the Lomondgate development is poised to realise the potential of its proximity to Dumbarton, to Loch Lomond, to the airport and to Glasgow. I have been delighted by the success of BBC Scotland’s decision to locate its production facility at Lomondgate and hope it acts as a beacon to other businesses and industries.”
