LOMONDGATE TAKES OFF
Strathleven Regeneration Company and development partners Walker Group confirmed today that construction of Dumbarton's new £60m mixed used development is on schedule and outlined the next stages for Lomondgate.
Welcoming David Hastings to the post of Executive Director with Strathleven Regeneration Company, Bruce Walker emphasised the significant impact Lomondgate will have on the local area.
Bruce Walker, Managing Director, Walker Group, said, 'The ground work required to develop a 100 acre site is extensive but we are extremely pleased with the progress of works which is now starting to take shape. Major road works, which included the creation of a new roundabout on the A82, as well as the replacement of traffic signals, a new pelican crossing, and the widening of lanes will be completed by August, creating the necessary infrastructure for the development.'
Media personnel, stakeholders and other interested parties took to the air today in a helicopter to gain a bird's eye view of the progress so far at Lomondgate.
Anchor tenant, BBC Scotland, is making an additional significant investment in further production facilities alongside the existing River City studio. A number of requirements are being actively pursued through commercial agents Knight Frank for the business park which will extend to 20 acres, and they will shortly be bringing a parcel of land to the market in response to demand for small to medium sized business units.
Within the nine acres of roadside services located adjacent to the Business Park, Whitbread is to build a 60 bed Premier Travel hotel and Brewers Fayre family restaurant and has now received its provisional license and is awaiting detailed planning consent. Negotiations are continuing to attract further leading brand names through agents Cushman & Wakefield.
In addition a detailed planning application has been submitted by Walker Group to West Dunbartonshire Council to build 108 homes. Styles will range from 2 bed terraced properties to 5 bed family homes. The residential element of Lomondgate will span 30 acres and negotiations are also underway with other developers to create the remaining 200 homes.
John McFall MP, chairman of Strathleven Regeneration Company, said, ' I am delighted to see the redevelopment of the former J&B bottling plant begin to take shape after years of hard work by Strathleven Regeneration Company and its partners, the Walker Group, West Dunbartonshire Council and Scottish Enterprise. Once the infrastructure and landscaping works are complete later this year, I very much look forward to then seeing the development of new housing, the Premier Inn hotel and other amenities followed by the Lomondgate Business Park. Together with BBC Scotland's River City studios, these developments will create a large number of jobs, boost the local economy and add to the attractiveness of Dumbarton as a natural gateway to the beauties and amenities of the Loch Lomond National Park and an excellent location for people to live and work.''
